AN INTRO

BUSINESS - FINAL P. > CHARITY DRIVE

Carnival themed.
The second and final projects for business was the epitome or climax of semester two in our foundation, as it was one of the most memorable, according to our seniors, and now experienced by us firsthand. Charity Drive week - the word that stirred excitement and anticipation into us from the first brief onwards. Branching on from the first assignment, we had to apply what we learnt about creating a business plan into actually applying it. Staring an enterprise was not going to be a piece of cake. So we retained the same team of us four girls with the addition of Amos. Below is the brief:

Realizing that a strong concept and identity was the basis to making ourselves known, we almost nearly decided on the vintage carnival theme. A few quick discussions confirmed that we would use what existing assets we have: Aida's powerful baking skills and Sam's popcorn and cotton candy machines to start us off. Without really considering other options, we began tasting and testing our to-be products and experimenting and estimating the cost and profit. As this was a rather major project, we each had our own main tasks while helping each other out in terms of manpower. The weeks leading up to business charity sales week were basically experimenting , planning logistics and working on marketing strategies, though we realised that the real progress would be made during sales week. Here are some photos of the whole process:

This project is a dear experience. Because we genuinely got our hands down and dirty and involved in everything from production to sales to finalising the report. And it was hard work, though worth every drop of profit we earned. Moving from one house to another to bake and make, while mustering enough energy to push booth and mobile sales each of the five days required lots of tolerance and willpower from each of us. But the most satisfying end result was we pulled through and became even closer as friends.

From a sun-filled booth selling our cheerful home made goods, brownies, popcorn and cotton floss, to rushing from every tiny nook in our campus annoying everyone into buying our products, to devising marketing scripts that we'd repeat to every customer about the goodness of Poppin's sweets, everything was unforgettable. Throughout the five days, we stepped up our game everyday leading to the last push on Friday, learning from the last. While donating the profit earned for a good cause (plus the grades). After a short break after our exhausting week, we got to settling accounts and starting on the written report. As a summary, we earned a total of 2.6 K profit, which was such a rewarding piece of news. Then we made a short visit to Hospital UKM to officially donate these proceedings before summing everything up with a series of reflective videos. From the accounting information gained from sales week plus our recorded observations and facts, Amos and I worked on the report below. For more information and photos, give it a read!

A final group photo in the children's ward of Hospital UKM. What a journey it had been. We were perfectly happy at that moment. Whatever problems and conflicts we settled with a higher purpose in mind - our overall happy success.

Amos and his four daughters (LOL)
I will be eternally grateful to my four dear friends for living this experience with me.
